Subsidies for assistance to seniors: Quebec calls Ottawa’s attitude “disgusting
Véronique Prince, Radio-Canada Info, published September 19, 2024
For months, community organizations have been paying the price of a dispute between Ottawa and Quebec over subsidies for seniors’ projects. While the two governments accuse each other of holding a vulnerable population hostage, the money is sitting in the coffers.
“It’s disgusting! I think it’s disgusting to have created false hope!” says Minister Jean-François Roberge, pointing the finger at the Trudeau government.
If he doesn’t mince his words, it’s because his government is tired of bearing the brunt of blocking the federal Aging Well program in Quebec.
570,000 grant on ice for Entraide Plus
Seniors are waiting
A text by Jean-Christophe Noël, Journal de Chambly, published September 11, 2024
L’Entraide Plus is still waiting for the grant of approximately $570,000 it received from Ottawa to provide the services needed by seniors in the area.
Sylvie Blanchard, General Manager (GM) of L’Entraide Plus in Chambly, received a nasty surprise when Ottawa retracted a previously approved grant of approximately $570,000.
Last March, it received notification of conditional funding approval from Ottawa. The funding came from the federal government’s “Aging Well at Home” initiative. The project she proposed would have enabled minor work to be carried out in the homes of local seniors.

I’ve taken the iPad training course and I’m delighted.
At Entraide Plus, I met an extraordinary, patient teacher. The training is truly individual: the teacher and the “student”. Everything unfolds at our own pace.
Great personal satisfaction
This experience and my participation have made me discover the human side of psychological and humanitarian needs, as well as the support this organization brings to people.
